We invite you to support TinyEyes.org in order to help us continue our initiatives to prevent a lifetime of blindness in the developing world.
There is an epidemic of childhood blindness from retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) in developing countries as a result of the expansion of intensive neonatal care, often associated with the lack of controlled oxygen support for the infants, compounded by a scarcity of ROP education or ROP screening programs.
In Uganda, for example, 4000 infants are born per day, with a 14% incidence of preterm birth and a 5-10% risk of severe ROP. Therefore, at least 10,200 infants are at risk of blindness each year in this small sub-Saharan African country where resources are scarce and ROP is an unknown and unrecognized disease.
Our mission is to advance education, provide essential services, and advocate for the prevention and treatment of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) and pediatric eye diseases around the world to prevent a lifetime of blindness in infants and children. We are dedicated to raising awareness and promoting research to improve outcomes for children with vision impairment. Through collaboration, education, and compassionate care, we strive to create a brighter future for every child at risk of or affected by these conditions.
